recess of marcus bookstore. i know that folks have reached out to you this has been a challenging issue. we all know that marcus brooks. this is the first place i bought my first book but this is a community place. i want to go through that history to talk about why it's so important that we as a city get actively engaged to do whatever he can to insure some protection for this historical building. i'm introducing this resolution to peruser the marcus bookstore which was jim both city building and to urge that's current owners to have someone uphold the building. founded by marcus brooks he's the an icon in japan neighborhoods and is a renounced center. marcus books has been a meeting place for organizations like west side community services and the development organization and the black panthers and the 17968 strishgz at san francisco state college. the store has hosted incredible icon like rosa parks and james baldwin and malcolm x. marcus books is a historic treasure in our community who's future are under factory attack. the building opened its doors in 1953 and it was founded as a

whole. i know you all have seen a lot of me. but marcus books has been a part of my life and i went to school with colleagues. so for me, you, you know, marcus books has been a place to get out of the madness and karen also has a message or a book that can relate to anybody. i remembered going to marcus books about two months ago. and i said who would the life be like without marcus books then i heard it's going to be gotten rid of. i i know that's the corporate interests. i'd like to say i hope the city helps out. we have a $8 million budget so i think they want to sell the bookstore for 3 million so that's 1.5 million and that's chicken feed to 8 hundred million and thank you all thait >> good evening supervisors. in my opinion this items should have been solved a long time ago. there's a few facts somehow the mayor's office and the board of supervisors found the sources to save the gay center ton market street. somehow the mayor's office and the board of supervisors get the resources for the infamous america's he cup and now the city has the resources to try to snatch the golden

. i had heard of marcus shelby and had been in join his work but never had the opportunity to meet him. we were brought together by the equal justice society specifically for this project. we were charged with beginning work. marquez and i spent a lot of time addressing our own position on the death penalty, our experiences with people who had been incarcerated, family members, friends of friends. pulling our information. beyond that, we did our own research. to create a picture that resonated with humanity. it is the shape of a house. in this context, it is also small and acts like a cell. i thought that was an interesting play on how these people make these adjustments, half to create home. what is home for these people? the home is their cell. people talk a lot about noise -- very noisy in prisons. that is interesting to me. looking at the communication level, the rise of frustration of being caged, wondering, where does redemption fit into the equation here? them are getting treatments. dr. norman marcus is director of research. welcome. what does the study tell us, and why is it significant? >> study tells us we're not getting the recommended treatments. the first warning is if you have back pain, it should be treated simply with simple drugs like motrin, ibuprofen, naprosyn, aleve. >> over the counterdrugs? >> over the countrier drugs, not morphine. there's a drop in motrin and abu p ibuprofen. and a 50% increase in use of drugs. it was initially thought that it might harm your heart so people got scared. they started to use more of the opiate drugs but they cause constipation that can kill you. it's gone up, and we have the whole move in the country to suppress their use. perhaps an overresponse that we see, how difficult it issing, because the suggestion is not to use them. the second thing is, you should stay under the care of your family doctor. your g.p. or practitioner, or in a woman's case, the gynecologist might be your family doctor. don't go to a specialist. there's a 100% increase in specialists more than double than what we

 marie guzm 27-year-old horale moreno and 26-year-old marcus moreno were arrested yesterday morning. police say the trio stole seven guns from reid's indoor gun range in santa clara. they were arrested less than a mile away from the store thanks to a silent alarm. the guns were recovered. >>> a police patrol car in palo alto creating controversy this morning because it's now equipped with technology that can automatically read your license plate. "today in the bay's" bob redell live in palo alto. he's here to explain all. bob, people worried about big brother watching. >> that's the concern. over the past 48 hours, on tuesday, the palo alto police department equipped a patrol car with an automatic license plate reader. that is now out on the streets, joining the list of at least 30 other bay area law enforcement agencies using this technology. if you're not familiar with how it works, as the patrol car goes through out the area, four cameras on top are scanning and reporting the license plates of all surrounding vehicles, immediately alerting the officer of a stolen or lost vehicle.

economic decline in the process. >> all right. well, marcus, i'd like to ask you the next question. marcus has worked at omb, he's worked at epa and was deputy administrator and most recently was with the senate budget committee. what do you see, taking all those together, what do you see as the agency's flexibility in managing towards sequester? do they use reprogramming or transfer authority? what are the flexibilities and means of getting at sequester? >> well, it obviously depends on the agency or activity that you're working at. i, you know, people put these sort of why is disks on their cars, and i've noticed recently a lot of cars have it. it says wag more and bark less. a little print underneath. and sequestration, if you needed a bumper sticker for sequestration, it's the opposite of that. it's been park more, wag less. and so you've had a lot of agencies barking, particularly the smaller agencies that have really just labor costs, and haven't seemed to have the flexibility that they wanted to transfer, reprogram or otherwise fix the sequestration problem. but i go back to
